![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RENAGADES OF NAPSTER Now I know, it's been done by every other person with a pen but still we here at Bleach decided to give it a try and see if we can put a slightly different spin on the whole controversy. There are many sides you can take on this issue. You may decide to side with the poor artist or the even poorer record label. Or you can go with my side along with the side of many other music lovers. KEEP NAPSTER ALIVE! Yes, I do download music. I download all kinds new, old, rare, everything. But for bands that I really like, No I do not download it. I consider that being a cheap way of obtaining their music. I think any bands whose music you really enjoy listening too you should buy their CD. But how often do you hear songs that you like but you're not overly fussy about the rest of the CD or the artist. I'm willing to bet that happens a fair bit. So don't buy the CD, download the songs you want and save your money! A lot of good has come from Napster. I'll use myself as the example, because of my searches on Napster I have found music that I really enjoy that I wouldn't have ever thought about going into a record store and buying. But because I was able to find some of their music and listen to it I went out and bought their CD. For that band it helped them get an extra 15 bucks in their pocket. The big boys at all these labels all they see is people getting music owned by them for free. Which means that they lose money. This is true, but in another way they're making money that they wouldn't have before. It's sad really because when you think about it the people who put their heart into what they write and play they don't own it, it becomes commercialized, stolen, and placed in the hands of the greedy record company. After all it is for the almighty dollar. If you were to ask me all the people who want to shut down the exchange of digital music are fools in the truest sense of the word. They think they can stop it but they couldn't be any further away from the truth. It's like a leaky boat you got a hole water is flooding in, so plug it, then you got another hole even more water, plug that one, soon your out of plugs and the water is just gushin in. That's what technology is to those big boys. It's holes that they will never be able to plug. They might shut down Napster but how long will it take before there is something else right up to take over Napster's duties. If those record execs were smart they would try in figure out a way they could make money with Napster. All they are is rich middlemen. And with technology booming like it is there may no longer be a need for these people. They could find their selves becoming extinct at an unforgivible rate. In my very humble opinion they are the device of their own destruction. - HuDson |
