FADS
Fads in television, Film, and music mean success. Now chances are when I say "fad" some of the words that will pop into your mind will be repetitive and something, which will go away given time. Both are true. They also take the form of money and success. First of all lets take a look at film.
Film
Whatever major event happens in life, film will reproduce Hollywood style. Back in the mid to late 90’s, movie entertainment took the shape of natural disaster with blockbuster hits such as Twister, Volcano, and Dante’s Peak. To name a few. All of which told a story of disaster. That was the genre of the time that movie go-ers wanted to see. How about fantasy post nuclear war movies such as the Mad Max trilogy or lower grade movies such as Neon City or Steel Dawn. Surviving from the ruins with new societies emerging has been real treat for decades. Then there are the movies with alien invasions. Hits like Independence Day or Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and not to forget Alien series. Each movie was different all while being the same as the one before. Another form of a less satisfying movie fad is the action movies. Good old action, with actors such as Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Ah-nud. The list goes on.
Television
Let’s go with the Simpson’s, everybody loves the Simpson’s. This show has spelled words like success and originality for over a decade. Because of this, we can be thankful for South Park, The Family Guy, Futurama, and the very sad Bob and Margaret. What do they all have in common besides the obvious fact that they’re animated? Well they’re all half-hour sitcom like shows intended for a mature audience. Talk shows are another very popular fad. If one does well there will be four more next season.
Music
Boy bands, the obvious one. Since The New Kids on the Block a decade ago, we can unhappily tune into The Backstreet Boys, Nsync, O-town, 98 degrees and so on. Each one doing better than before. TV has also picked up on this fad with shows like "Making the Band" and "2 Gether", not to mention the newest addition, "Popstars". It was one idea that spawned many more exactly alike. How about teenage female sensations like Britney Spears, or Christina Aguilara? One done well now there is an ocean of sexy teenyboppers, singing their hearts out.
So even though it is and can be repetitive and sometimes nauseating, fads in the entertainment industry mean success and above all else a shit load of money.
