![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ROCK N' ROLL IS DEAD To some I know this is a difficult thing to read. But it’s the truth! I don’t really know when it happened but I’ll say the 80’s. The 80’s truly did wipe out the last of what could be called Rock 'n' Roll. It’s really know trouble to tell. You can always distinguish that era of music by the sound. You know that hollow poppy sound? Ok perhaps it just me that sees it this way, but nonetheless that is how I see it. What is considered Rock 'n' Roll these days is more of collaboration between pop and hip hop with a twist of metal sometimes. Now this isn’t bad by any means. It’s not like the Stones or Tragically Hip, or Led Zeppelin or anything like that. But it’s still good. Now when I say that Rock n Roll is dead it is in a sense.. but there are still Rock 'n' Roll bands. The Rolling Stones are still kicking, Tragically Hip are a great Rock band, that’s just to name a couple. Music changes along with tastes. I think that what was once considered Rock 'n' Roll evolved into Alternative, from their Hip-Hop (not rap) combined with metal - this is taking over what was once called Rock 'n' Roll. And from this strain we see collaboration between genres. Take country for example. Country was once slow and dry well in a word boring. But now we see Country musicians like Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, etc., uplifting country so to speak. If there is such a thing? Like anything in our society and civilization, it evolves...and so does music. It’s all part of it. Personally I like it! The music lovers could never get bored, because there is always something new, a new flavor coming out, sort of a “flavor of the week” so to speak! So if I hurt anyone’s feelings in this article I do apologize but we do have a lot to look forward to in the future of music. I don’t think that modern music or whatever the genre will ever replace old greats, but I do believe that they can enhance what was once mainstream and place those bands and that music on a plateau that will never be forgotten - only admired and respected for generations to come. ---HuDson |
