An Angry Moment

SALMON FESTIVAL 2001

I was there, yea! After spending the weekend out in Grand Falls. I have to say that this concert and party should be called Newfoundland Woodstock. First, lets start with the campsites out at Redcliff.

My friends and myself arrived at the campsite Friday evening. The concert hadn't started yet but already spirits were high. The field that is probably a bit bigger than a football field was nearly full. The atmosphere was unbelievable the weather was sunny and hot. And people all over were feeling how good it was to be alive. Darkness fell and the place seem to jump even higher. There was a tent set up with speakers and a sound system where about 200 people out of the couple thousand were dancing and the spectators looked on in awe!

Saturday came and it seemed like the sun got even hotter. People were still drinking and partying. Having barbecues, playing football and tossing Frisbees. Although it was difficult to see near half of the people there seemed to be no sign of violence or aggression which is somewhat strange for this many people. Everybody was just in a great mood from an even better party atmosphere.

The Concert started I believe 2 PM Saturday and from there spectators heard great bands such as Newfoundland's own Timber, Canadian band The Moffats, Crush, Tom Cochrane, Nelly Furtado (Whoa Nelly), and one of the greatest and most talented bands on the planet, right: THE TEA PARTY. Well the place went up even to Nelly, which I must say I did enjoy. The beer tent wasn't a tent it was a softball field, which was littered with people from coast to coast. The concert area was packed if you were able to get 100 feet close if you were able to get 100 feet close to the stage you were lucky. Sardines bring anything to mind? There were school buses running from the campsite to the concert, so there was always a steady stream of people going back and forth. My only regret was that I didn't get to watch the whole Tea Party show due to the fact that if we had waited we probably wouldn't have been able to get back to the campsite because so many other people needed rides as well.

It's difficult to describe in too much full detail what this past that weekend was like and how much fun it was. All I can say is that was my first time ever attending the Salmon Festival, but unless I'm dead… it will definitely not be my last.
