![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() HORROR MOVIES Since the beginning of theatrical entertainment there has been one genre of film that is set aside from the rest of the industry. Horror films have brought all of the monsters under our beds and the demons in our heads to the big screen to scare the living daylights out of us. What makes a good horror movie? Suspense, awesome special effects, or how about a disturbing but solid plot and story line? It takes a bit of everything it has to fit together perfectly better than a thousand piece puzzle. Out of all the categories in film horror movies are the most difficult to make. The reason being is, if anything in the movie doesn't work out the way planned the movie will be a bust or worst yet it will make you laugh and that is not the outcome wanted for horror movie. So what do you find scary? Do you like supernatural horrific scenes? How about films on a serial killer who commits the most anuses of all crimes or even a giant shark that ferociously attacks and eats people? Whatever the concept or idea horror movies are supposed to create the feeling of being helpless and the worry that someday, any day anybody could meet their untimely demise in a horrible way. So what movies scare you the most? Which films leave that unsettling feeling in the pit of your stomach? For me I would have to go with supernatural and the far out there. Movies such as the Child's play series with the evil little doll that has the soul of a ruthless killer and ends up killing nearly every character in the movie except for the hero or the heroine. And finally when they kill the little pile of evil he still fines a way to come back for a sequel. Now some of you may have laughed at the movie more than screaming but for me the thought of a doll that kills people was simply horrifying. Jaws, an original blockbuster back in 75 that made people have a brand new fear of the water. This movie made people worldwide think long and hard on where they went for a swim. The music alone in this movie was enough to put chills up and down your spine and make the little hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Even the sequels to this movie had done very well at the box office. The great white shark is now a creature that haunts us in the deepest of places. Be careful where you go for a swim there could be something waiting to have lunch. Now the movie that I remember having nightmares about after watching it, Pet Cemetery. This was a movie about a young boy that died in a tragic way and instead of his parents excepting the reality of him being dead they buried him in an old Indian burial ground that was said to have special powers in bringing back the dead. He came back all right and killed everything in site. It still gives me goose bumps to think about it. The goal for a horror movie is to bring out the fear in a person that they never thought they had. A good horror movie will leave ripples of fear in your mind that will haunt you for years to come. ---HuDson |
