![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() QUITTING SMOKING For anyone who presently smokes or for anyone who has smoked we all know how difficult it can be to quit. When it comes to this bad habit, giving it up it could probably be one of the most difficult things anybody could ever have to do. It amazes me how different people do pick it up no matter if its in high school or college or later in life, and there are people who will never pick up a butt, the very thought of smoking a cigarette totally repulses them. Hats off to those people, how great it must be. It really amazes me how anyone in this day and age can smoke especially with all the advertising done to promote smoke free living. Even the tobacco companies were forced to change their labeling of the packs, and everyone has heard all those catchy TV and radio commercials with SMOKING SUCKS being the theme. But still the tobacco industry continues to be a multi-billion dollar industry. That's a hell of a lot of money for something that kills our friends and family and us everyday. When you read these labels on the packs, it can be some really scary statistics and facts about smoking. Such as, Smoking can be more addictive than cocaine or heroine. Or pictures of a rotten heart or lung along with most horrible teeth you ever did see. And no one can forget the one with the limp cigarette saying "smoking can cause impotence" nasty stuff, but still so many people continue to smoke. We all know it's going to kill us so why do we do it? So many people who smoke and even some, who don't smoke, smoke while drinking. (Alcohol that is, not Sunny Delight) How many times have you been drinking and heard yourself or someone else say this is my last one I'm never touching it again. But yet the next morning all you want is one more. What are we suppose to do to break this horrible habit? I don't know, I mean there are hundreds of options for someone who does wish to give it up, but not all of them work, it depends on the person and how bad they want to quit. I mean, you could buy gum or go on the patch, or buy a little computer that some how helps you quit, or hell you can even give it up cold turkey. None of these options or products makes it any easier. So what to do? I wish they would make the sale of cigarettes illegal, that would be perfect. What a better way to quit than not having a choice; you can't use a product if the product isn't available. But then if that were to happen there would be a big fight with people saying that it is a rights violation and all that #%^&. So once again, back to square one. So in closing I don't have any real concrete advice to give you, but if you are serious about quitting there are lots of places you can get information on the best methods. Such as your local doctor and even the Internet (surprise surprise) There are lots of great sites that offer a vast amount of information on different methods, and what different people have used to help them quit. So take a look, consider what you could gain! ---HuDson |
