An Angry Moment

THE US UNDER ATTACK

The world stood and watched Tuesday September 11, 2001 as The United States underwent a series of brutal attacks from speculated origin. At approximately 9 AM Eastern time a civilian plane crashed into one of the twin towers of the World Trade building. About and half-hour later another plane crashed into the second Word Trade building tower. About 45 minutes later yet another plane crashed into the pentagon located in Washington. At first onlookers thought of the first plane to be a plane that lost control and crashed into a building instead of the ground but then the second and the third. It soon became evident that it was no fluke or coincident it was a deliberate attack on the U.S. It's commerce, and it's people.

Most people that have access to a television or a radio by now as heard of the atrocity. I don't think people for the most part realize the seriousness of this situation. Myself I am from Newfoundland but nearly the whole day I haven't been able to tear myself away from the TV, for the simple reason, it does affect us ALL Everybody on the face of the planet. Terrorism is something that the world especially the United States has had to deal with for the best part of the 20th century. But now it seems Terrorism has taken a bold new face of destruction. Officials claim they are unsure of the exact death toll, but they also claim that anywhere from 20to50 thousand people could have been in the World Trade building on a normal working day and what could be more normal about a Tuesday? This of course is not counting the people who were on the planes, the people who were in the Pentagon at the time of the attack or the people who were on the streets below the world trade building. So as you can see this attack on freedom and democracy the very things that make North America great is very much at risk.

Everything has been affected by today's happenings. Most of the American flights have been re-directed to Canada. I heard earlier today that St. John's airport has accepted many flights that were unable to enter U.S airspace along with other major airports throughout Canada. The world stock market has been seriously affected many stocks have plummeted due too today's transpiring. Millions of dollars have been lost. Although this is a small part of the ordeal when we look at how many people have lost their lives to the evil that caused this horror.

I have been watching responses given from different people after being asked what their opinion was on today's happenings. I remember what one man said very clearly; unless I'm mistaken he is an American Citizen, well anyway this is what he said, "George Bush should nuke all terrorist countries" Now this I don't agree with. Immediate action should be taken with force this is true, but not nukes. There are so many smaller oppressed countries who have nuclear capability and if a one of these were bombed how long would it take for the missiles to pass each other in the air. And no one wants that. I for one am not in a big hurry to bring about the end of the world. And I hope that most people no matter how naive or uneducated will agree.

Terrorism is not something that we just read about in the papers or something we watch movies about. It's real, and every single one of us are threatened by it, no matter if we see this or not. What happened Tuesday should be a wake up call for everybody. We must realize that terrorism isn't just something that only Americans have to deal with it's not! Terrorism represents a Clear and a Present Danger to the entire global community.
