Ever notice how someone who is relatively unknown or disliked can say something very profound and nobody listens, but someone who is popular can say the stupidest comment and everyone is in awe at their wit? Whether you have noticed this or not it's true. So how do one go about gaining popularity or at least enough respect for people to listen to them? Do it take money, good looks, athletic ability, a fast car, or do it go deeper than just material objects?

The answer that most everyone will give you is to "BE YOURSELF!" you can't lose by being yourself! This is true of course for the most part but there is a little more to it than that. You need to fully grasp what being yourself actually means. It has nothing to do with you fantasizing about whom you want to be, or being yourself when you are alone or with a best friend. You need to fully understand every detail about yourself, you need to know yourself better than ANYONE that exists does and you need to know your limits. What triggers causes your emotions to go to their extremes, what type of people you like, what and who you are attracted to. The music that means the most to you, the movies, television shows, radio stations. Your favorite kind of clothes, hairstyle, shoes, and sports...EVERY POSSIBLE DETAIL! Some of these things may change every day so keep yourself updated.

Confidence comes from deep inside you, and once you know who you are then you can be confident in that. The next thing you need to understand about being yourself is to be truthful to yourself and everyone around you. Be up front and honest. It may get you in trouble sometimes but not half as much trouble as lying to people will. Show the whole world that your opinion matters by speaking up in conversations, be firm but polite, don't put down anyone...not even your worst enemy unless your comments are being said directly to them. Present an image of independence, self worth, and confidence even if you don't feel that way all the time. People will see this in you and will be drawn to your strength. Respect from others starts with having respect for yourself. That is the root of the situation, show love for yourself and others and love will be returned to you times ten.
