![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PLAYING FOR MONEY I used to love watching hockey when I was a kid. Curling up in front of the TV with my father on a cold Saturday night with the snow falling and the frost building up on the window. I remember watching heroes such as Wayne Gretzky in his prime playing for Edmonton and others like Stephan Richer and Kirk Muller. I would see them skate up the ice with the puck and remember thinking how lucky they were to be able to get paid for playing a game. Now In the year 2001 It hurts to see players with great ability and talent refusing to play a game because a figure like $ 5,000,000 a year is not enough money. For God sake it's a game and they're getting paid big bucks to play. I just wonder what happened to things like heart, and "for the love of the game". What happened? If its not sad enough to see nearly all the Canadian teams relocating South of the border to places such as Florida and Nashville. Places that don't even have natural ice in the winter. We have to be hearing about millions of dollars not being a satisfactory amount of money to be paid for playing a game. Well, so much for the love of the game. -HuDson |
