Never saw yourself as much of a mainstream sports athlete! By mainstream I mean hockey, basketball, football, etc. No me neither. There are hundreds of different sports, some are popular and most are not. What I'm going to write about here today is diving and snorkeling.

Many people have a phobia of the water. Whether it's because they don't know what's there or maybe they just can't swim. All I can say is that I'm from Newfoundland and I can swim and there are no Jaws in these waters waiting to have me as a hot lunch. So lets move on. I don't SCUBA dive (as of yet) but I do snorkel. I've been doing it for quite a few years now and I'll admit when I first got into it, it was a bit unnerving jumping into the cold Atlantic but like anything I got used to it. It's now my favorite activity in the summer. I don't think there is anything better than jumping into the water and just looking and watching. It's like a whole new world. You see things in a different perspective. You see things that you'll never see anywhere else. Life is so much simpler under the water, just swim!

Now, many of you will not see how this can be considered a sport, and maybe it's not to a lot of people. I consider it a peaceful activity. It's relaxing, just you and the water. So for anyone who is looking to find a new activity for the summer months, go out and buy a mask and snorkel! It's a great past time!
